A timber-beamed ceiling is made-up of the “raw” ceiling structure, the flooring and the underfoot covering. Impact sound is the name for sound generated by movement (e.g., by walking ) or by vibration (such as from a washing machine in operation) and induced into the floor structure. This kind of sound is transmitted in the form of solid-borne sound and is frequently perceived as an irritation. Timber-beamed ceilings frequently do not have an adequate insulation for the protection against such impact sound.
