The timber beams represent a statically active constituent of the TCC ceiling and must therefore have full supporting capacity throughout, i.e. not just during construction. If there is any doubt, an Expert Timber Protection Report is essential.

TCC Norms

In addition to EC 5 »Design and construction of timber structures«, the HBV shall be standardised. In preparation for this, several research institutions in Europe are currently working on a technical specification.

If there is the possibility of damage to the old timbered ceiling beams, the old  floor construction should be removed first. Especially the beam ends (where they are supported on the exterior wall) must be carefully checked for any possible damage to the timber.

Depending on any identified damage, a Timber Protection Report should be commissioned; this should describe and record details of any damage and stipulate rehabilitation measures.
