The PE films is used to separate concrete from shuttering or beams, the absorbency of which is not known; this reduces the risk of liquid escape into the storey below.

A 200 µm thick plastic film will produce a reliable result.
In most cases the concrete is installed on timber elements, the absorption properties of which is not known. Hence there is no certainty that water extraction by hydration takes place. This is why a protective film needs to be inserted and attached to the shuttering.
Elascon uses a fully transparent PE film with thickness of 200 µm. Transparency ensures that the fitters can ensure correct positioning of the shear connectors during their installation. If the film is too thin, there is the risk that it wraps round the shear connectors during their installation. End-to end positions can be left loosely overlapped by 30 to 40 cm. Since the concrete always abuts on the wall, the film needs to be loosely attached to the wall up to a height of 40 cm, all the way round.
