In addition to EC 5 »Design and construction of timber structures«, the HBV shall be standardised. In preparation for this, several research institutions in Europe are currently working on a technical specification.

This embraces the burning rate of wood of 0.7 and 0.8 mm per minute respectively and the periods of delay determined by means of a plethora of fire tests with additional actions from below and from the side. Many experts and test engineers actually demand an object-specific test certificate, irrespective of the actual specific fire prevention level concerned, i.e., they look for an Expert Opinion.

Route 2: Based on our own Series of Tests
Jointly with a major industrial partner, we have carried out a large number or 1:1 fire tests and obtained important know how about the way in which fire protection from below and from the side has to be designed, if the specified fire retardation requirements F30, F60, F90 are to be constructively implemented so that the target values are thereby actually met. An expensive fire protection cladding of the underside (Promat etc.) may, as a general rule, be compensated for with an intelligent facing. Exposure to fire from above is usually not critical for the Elascon Timber-Concrete composite; this also applies to the temperature rise applicable to an adjacent room. We have been able to attribute more than 35 historic ceiling designs to the different fire classes.
